TWO Chinese nationals of Zamastone Quarries have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court for allegedly manufacturing explosives illegally.

And a 19-year-old woman of Chibebe village will also appear in  court soon for attempted infanticide.

Xie Jian Liang and Kelvin Jiang were arrested and charged but could not take plea yesterday because when the matter was called for allocation before Chief Resident Magistrate Kenneth Mulife, the court was informed that the duo, who were on police bond, were not before court.

Mr Mulife allocated the matter before Magistrate Anne Holland where they are expected to take plea.

The duo are facing one count of illegal manufacturing of explosives contrary to section 8 (1) of the explosives Act no. 10 of 1974.

It is alleged that Liang and Jiang in May, 2016, jointly and while acting together, did manufacture explosives at Zamastone Quarries in Lusaka West without a licence.

They are expected to appear in court soon. And the woman, Fair Ndende, who is remanded in custody, was expected to appear in court for attempted infanticide.

But she could not appear for the explanation of her charge when the matter was allocated before Magistrate Ireen Wishimanga as she was not brought from custody.

She is however expected to appear in court soon.

Ndende is on March 24 this year accused to have wilfully or through omission did attempt to cause the death of her child under the age of 12 months contrary to section 215 of the laws of Zambia.
