Lusaka musician Clifford Dimba, popularly known as General Kanene, is back in court for allegedly clobbering his third wife, Sharon Ndandula, a few days after he was pardoned by President Edgar Lungu on his defilement case in June last year.
However, when the matter came up for allocations before Magistrate Humphrey Chitalu, State prosecutor Juvenalis Kamutonde informed the court that Dimba, who was on police bond, was not before court and that no reasons were brought forth for his absence.
Mr Chitalu allocated the matter before Magistrate Alice Walusiku where Dimba is expected to take his plea.
In this case, Dimba is charged with one count of assault contrary to section 248 of the laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Dimba on June 18 last year assaulted Ms Ndandula, occasioning her actual bodily harm.
According to police sources, Dimba is alleged to have beaten his wife after he accused her of sleeping with other men after she received a call while discussing the welfare of their children.
Concerned family members of Kanene’s wife are said to have brought the matter to the attention of President Lungu when they made their disappointment known to State House that a man the Head of State had pardoned returned homw only to beat their relatives.
In January this year, the Lusaka Magistrates Court discontinued another assault case in which Dimba was accused of having assaulted Modrine Chisenga of Chawama.
Chief Resident Magistrate Kenneth Mulife discontinued the case after the complainant failed to appear before court several times, forcing the court to discharge the musician.
Dimba is expected to appear in court soon for his plea.
