FORTY-EIGHT hours after being acquitted by the court, two UPND councillors now together with former Acting Town Clerk at Livingstone City Council have appeared in the Livingstone Magistrates Court for 25 offences ranging from illegal land allocations, abuse of authority of office, corrupt acquisition of public property and revenue, and forgery.
Before Magistrate Benjamin Mwewa yesterday was suspended Livingstone Mayor Milford Maambo, 46, suspended Councillor Ziwa Maliwa Ziwa, 39 and former acting Town Clerk Chanda Chabala, 41 who all pleaded not guilty in reference to the respective charges each one is facing. On Thursday, officers from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) formally arrested the three accused persons after an investigation in their involvement in illegal land transactions at the council and were released on police bond.
Maambo and Ziwa are being represented by Adrian Nkausu of AC Nkausu and Company while Chabala is being represented by Philip Mukuka of AMC Legal Practitioners.
The matter has since been adjourned to May 30, 31 and June 1 for commencement of trial and the trio’s police bonds have been extended.
