Two men shocked a Lusaka Local Court when they both said they were married to one woman.

This is in a case in which Samuel Moyo, 45, sued Felix Musonda for adultery.

Moyo told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that he married Grace Kolala, 38, in 2011 but Musonda also said that he married the same woman in 2007.

Moyo said later it transpired to him that Kolala was spending nights with Musonda and spending days with him for close to four years.

He explained said that Kolala lied to him for more than three years that she was working night shifts.

Moyo said that all those years he believed Kolala because even her relatives used to visit their home.

Moyo further said that  the seven years he had stayed with Kolala, he never paid dowry because she did not want him to do so on the pretext her relatives were very busy.

“I was recently shocked to discover that Kolala had been married to another man for the past three years,” said Moyo.

But Musonda said that when he met Kolala she told him that she was single.

He explained that they dated for some time until he decided to marry her. The two even started staying together.

But Kolala said Musonda was her husband because he was the one who paid dowry.

She explained that she first got married to Moyo and went on separation, adding that in 2011 she decided to get married to Musonda.

Magistrate Mumba ordered Moyo to compensate Musonda with K15, 000. Traditionally, Musonda was the one who legally married Kolala because he paid dowry.
