A 33-YEAR-OLD woman has caused laughter in a Local Court in Lusaka when she admitted denying her husband conjugal rights because he kept her hungry and could not make love on an empty stomach.
This was heard in a case in which Sarah Chingezi of Kanyama compound sued her husband, Lubinda Imanga, 36, for divorce on allegation that he wrote her a divorce letter.
The two got married in 2006 and have one child.
Chingezi told senior court Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa sitting with Magistrates Daniel Phiri and Ackim Phiri at Kanyama Local Court that she did not want to divorce Imanga but she wanted him to be giving her his pay.
She explained that she was surprised recently when she asked for money and he gave her an envelope which contained a divorce letter.
In cross-examination, Chingezi said that she did not ask Imanga to write her a divorce letter.
Asked by the court if she loved Imanga, Chingezi said that she loved him even if he wrote to her a divorce letter and that when they slept he gave her his back.
In defence, Imanga said that Chingezi joined a company of single ladies who drink beer and that she also started drinking adding that he still loved her but he wanted her to change.
And Chingezi said that she denied Imanga conjugal rights because she was hungry for he refuses to give her money, stressing that she could not make love on an empty stomach.
Magistrate Nyendwa said that Imanga should be giving Chingezi his pay and that Chingezi should be submissive to him. She reconciled the couple.
