A BUSINESSWOMAN told a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband is a Casanova who has persistently denied her conjugal rights for five months.
This was in a case in which Everest Njobvu, 47, a business woman of Kanyama West compound sued her husband, Martin Tembo, 46, for divorce.
The two got married in 1989 and have six children.
Njobvu told Senior Court Magistrate Daniel Phiri sitting with Magistrates Ackim Phiri and Sarah Nyendwa at Kanyama Local Court that all was well until 2014 when Tembo married another woman.
She explained that Tembo was a Casanova who changed women like shirts and that he had denied her conjugal rights for five months.
Njobvu further said that Tembo did provide for the family but came to shout at her late in the nights, adding that her husband always left the matrimonial home as early as 05.00 hours.
In cross-examination, Njobvu denied ever telling her husband that he released water instead of sperms when having sex.
In defence, Tembo said that problems started when Njobvu’s mother died because she was the one who was helping him to solve matrimonial disputes.
He explained that Njobvu wanted him to listen to whatever she said, adding that he even chased his relatives because she did not like them.
Tembo further said that at one time when they differed, Njobvu went to her father in George compound where he was told to leave her and marry another woman if he so wished.
“I married another woman after Njobvu’s father told me so, and I left the matrimonial home,” said Tembo.
Magistrate Daniel Phiri said that Tembo was a Casanova because he failed to challenge Njobvu.
He granted the couple divorce ordering Tembo to compensate Njobvu K8000 with initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly instalments of K400 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K600 per month. Property acquired together would be shared equally.
