A 22-YEAR-OLD woman pleaded with a Local Court in Lusaka to be divorced because she is too young to stay without sex after her husband married another woman and told her that he will only set her free after 10 years. This is in a case in which Anna Mkandawire of new Kanyama compound sued her husband, Amos Mbale, 28, of Chipata compound for reconciliation. The two got married in 2013 and do not have children. Mkandawire told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Abbishine Michelo at Kanyama Local Court that she only stayed well for a year because after the first child died, differences started. She explained that in February 2016 when the second child died, Mbale sent her to the village but he married another woman and told her that if she wanted to get married, she was free to do so. Mkandawire said that Mbale‘s brother sent her transport money to come back but Mbale phoned her and told her to go to the person who sent her money. Mkandawire told the court that when she finally came, Mbale told her that he did not want her. “My father got me after he said that he will set me free after ten years but I am too young to stay without making love,” said Mkandawire. In defence, Mbale admitted marrying another woman but said that he still loved Mkandawire. He explained that since they married, he had never seen Mkandawire’s relatives, adding that when his two children died her father never came but he was surprised that he came to court. Mbale said that he was afraid to stay with Mkandawire because in the event she died, her relatives would leave him alone to bury her. In submission, Mkandawire pleaded with the court to be divorced because she was too young to stay without making love while Mbale was enjoying with another woman, adding that she could not stay in a polygamous marriage. Magistrate Mumba ruled a failed reconciliation since Mkandawire refused to stay in a polygamous marriage.
