A 28-YEAR-OLD woman narrated before a Local Court in Lusaka that she was very shocked to discover that her husband was taking ARVs secretly which he hid in the wardrobe and vehemently refused not reconcile with him. Anna Mbewe of Kanyama compound was testifying in a case in which her husband, Aaron Mukuyungwa, 40, sued her for reconciliation. The two married in 2011 and have one child. Mukuyungwa told Senior Court Magistrate Abbishine Michelo sitting with Magistrate Lewis Mumba at Kanyama Local Court that every time Mbewe’s sister came home differences arose. He explained that in 2012 after they differed, Mbewe shifted to Mtendere where she stayed for three months. Mukuyungwa said in 2015 when Mbewe’s older sister came, they differed over the tenants and his wife left the matrimonial home. He further said that after he found Mbewe in Chazanga compound, she refused to reconcile and left for Chipata where she lived for eight months. “In February 2016, we reconciled but in September she left again after we differed, and she refused to reconcile when we sat together as families,” said Mukuyungwa. In defence, Mbewe said that she was refusing to reconcile with Mukuyungwa because after they differed just three days in marriage, she was shocked to discover that he was taking ARVs which were hidden in the wardrobe. She explained that she continued staying with Mukuyungwa because it was too late although every time he came from drinking beer he would spew all kinds of insults on her. Mbewe further said that in 2012, Mukuyungwa looked for a girlfriend, who is a widow, in Chalala and that he phoned her wanting to stay with her after claiming that he was a widower. Magistrate Michelo said that if it were true Mukuyungwa did not tell Mbewe that he was taking ARVs, that was a crime. He ruled a failed reconciliation since Mbewe refused to reconcile.
